Thank you for visiting the "Fracking" page. Like many people, in the beginning, briefly, I was a cheerleader for fracking because I wanted to believe what we were being told; that fracking was a practical answer to energy independence. I have since come to the conclusion that we were being sold, as we are more and more often on many things. The purpose of this page is to present objective information, together in one place, for you to decide whether fracking is worthwhile or not. I will admit to some bias because, after much research, I am an enthusiastic supporter and proponent of Thorium as the BEST, most reliable, safe, clean energy for the world. To learn more please visit my Thorium page.
However, the PERFECT energy source and my first choice would be hydrogen. Hydrogen is the most abundant element on earth as well as throughout the universe. Here on earth, hydrogen is most abundant in water (H2O). When the hydrogen (H2) is separated from oxygen (O) it can be burned and the resulting exhaust is...water. Perfect! I believe that the technology exists since hydrogen fuel cells have been in use since the early space program. In 2015, Toyota will be introducing the first hydrogen fuel powered car.
The BIG concern I have about fracking is that it is fracturing geological structures at such deep depths that it can't help but have unintended consequences. Maybe not immediately, but sometime. One of the videos below, "5/31/2014 -- 4 Mile Long eruption of Liquid Sand + stored CO2 @ Fracking operation in Colorado" is one example of an unintended consequence. If pressure, weight, and volume aren't equal, then you get the "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark" effect where Indiana Jones replaces the temple idol with a (heavier) bag of sand that depresses the plunger and sets of a chain of life threatening events. Fortunately for him, he barely escapes alive. Will we and our planet be as lucky?
Keep in mind that the underground oil deposits, for example, have taken thousands, if not millions of years, to come into existence and now corporations are extracting it comparatively overnight. What once existed to possibly act as a geological lubricant has now been removed which will now cause greater friction between geological formations, possibly putting greater stress on the movement of the tectonic plates, producing greater geological anomalies (tremors, earthquakes, etc.). It could even possibly transfer pressures elsewhere so areas that are not involved with fracking may experience the result of it.
It is a fact that as the contour of the topography is changed, it will result in changes in wind flow and water drainage resulting in changes in weather patterns and climate.
Stay vigilant regarding fracking news. Please check back often as I will continue to add more information about fracking here and how it may affect you. Thank you. ~ Rodney Spooner
